Why your GTM is silently killing your startup.
Most tech and cyber founders don't have a product problem. Here's what's actually going wrong — and the exact frameworks fixing it.
FROM THE HOST
I've had the same conversation dozens of times in the last year. A founder reaches out — smart person, real technology, genuine market need — and they're stuck. The pipeline isn't growing. The deals that do come in take forever to close. The team is burning cash on activity that produces no results.
Every single time, the product isn't the problem. The go-to-market is.
That's why I made this episode. It's the most direct, no-fluff breakdown of B2B GTM for tech and cyber startups I've ever put together — what's actually working in 2025, what's dead, and what most operators are too afraid to say out loud.
"A great product with a broken GTM will lose every time to a mediocre product with a sharp GTM."
— THE 5 GTM KILLERS
What's destroying your pipeline before it even starts
Before talking about what works, we need to talk about what's failing. After working with dozens of founders, the same five patterns come up again and again — and most operators don't even know they're doing them.
Killer #1 - No ICP clarityThe Mistake: Thinking "we sell to enterprise" is a strategy. It’s not; it’s a prayer.
The Fix: Get razor-sharp , FOCUSED.
Example: Instead of "Financial institutions," try "CISOs at banks with 500–5,000 employees who just failed a compliance audit."
Why? Specificity changes your messaging, pricing, and marketing channels.
Killer #2 - PLG vs. Sales-led confusionThe Mistake: Trying to do both with a 4-person team. You will fail at both.
The Rule: Pick a dominant motion.
PLG: Use for low ACV and self-serve onboarding (e.g., dev tools).
Sales-Led: Use for $50K+ ACV where large buying committees or procurement are involved.
Killer #3 - Lead gen, not Demand genThe Mistake: Focusing only on Lead Gen (chasing people who don’t know you).
The Fix: Invest in Demand Generation. Be so valuable that people come to YOU.
Reality Check: Buyers are researching you on LinkedIn, Reddit, and Slack before they ever fill out your form.
Killer #4 - Selling features, not outcomesThe Mistake: Leading with "AI-powered threat detection with real-time telemetry."
The Reality: Nobody cares !
The Fix: Use Outcome-led messaging , what they get out of it.
What Converts: "We help security teams cut detection time from 72 hours to under 4—without adding headcount."
Killer #5 - Misaligned sales and marketingThe Mistake: Marketing generates MQLs that Sales ignores.
The Fix: Build a shared revenue team. Same vision, same north, ONE MISSION.
Action Plan: Define SQL criteria together, create feedback loops, and tie compensation to pipeline, not just leads.
The good news? Every single one of these is fixable. And fixing even two or three of them unlocks pipeline you didn't know you had.
